Subject: Long tubes IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 R/T Dakota I have been looking for a set of long tube headers for it and have been pretty unsuccessful in my attempt of finding a reasonable priced set. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could point my nose in the direction of good set.

Message: you wont find a set "reasonably priced". start thinking at least $500/$600, coated if you're lucky. long tube headers for our daks are not mass produced. hence the high price. check the delphi r/t board. they may help.

Message: www.krcperformance.com sells a modified set of Hooker 1 5/8" long tubes, ceramic coated for $799.
www.southeastrt.com is having both 1 5/8" and 1 3/4" long-tube headers produced in limited quantities, they will also run in the $700-750 range with ceramic coating.

Message: Even build your own kits are running $500. If you think you can do it I would recommend this guy-
https://www.headersbyed.com/index.htm
Ed also makes some of the finest headers available and has for about 40 years. Unfortunately he doesn't make them for our trucks. The site is worth a visit just for the general info.

Message: Considering the fact that a set of custom headers from a place like Headers by Ed would set you back $350, in 1971, $700 is dirt cheap.

Message: At least $200-250 of those prices is the ceramic coating. You can order the SE R/T headers without it for $499 on the initial run.
For comparison, the mass-produced long-tube headers for the 5.7L Hemi motor run in the $1200 range, so $700-800 isn't too outrageous. The only headers you will find that are cheaper are either short tubes or poor quality.

Message: I have a set of shorties on it right now. They are such a pain in the ass to bolt up.
But thanks guys. I guess I will just have to bite the bullet.

Message: It wouldn't be terribly difficult to convert shorties to long tube headers. About 2/3 to 3/4 of the work has already been done for you.
