After comparing all the engines and what not... I have decided that my truck DESERVES to have a 5.2L under the hood. The truck is currently a 1997 3.9L 2wd reg. cab. My question is... besides the engine, computer and tranny, is there anytihng I need to swap out, is the cooling system all the same? Also, i called the local junk yard and they said they tihnk tha tonly a 1997 tranny will fit, is this true? Any help is greatley appreciated.

stick to the same yr as yours for a donor and it will be much easier. engine, tranny, pcm and harness or instead of the whole harness you could just wire in the other 2 injectors.
there are many post on here about this and what's needed. just do a little digging.

Any '96 or newer tranny will swap. Note it must be the '96 or newer to work with the OBDII computer.

You can even use the same torque converter (but not the flexplate--if using stock MPI) between the V6 and the 318 (5.2).
