2001 4.7 5 speed 3.92 LS Club Cab
Surely there is a way to find out. I want to know just how rare my truck really is. In this area it is next to impossible to find this setup. I had to custom order this truck after having the dealer search for a while with no luck.
Thanks,
Keith

Message: I agree with you Cyber.
I live in Utah. I would say this is a truck state. The only 4.7 5 speed 3.92 LS CC SLT Plus was my truck. Dealer looked in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Oragon, and California. There were some sports. But Personally I don't like the same color bumper and gril. Hence the reason for the SLT. That was in January of 2000. I would like to find out how many there are of my trucks as well. Esspecally in my area.

Message: If you are talking 2wd then not many. If you are talking 4x4 then I'd say 1000's or even 10's of thousands. Dave Smith is the #1 volume Dodge Truck dealer on the planet. They didn't even have a single 2wd Dakota in stock when I was looking. They did have 75 new Dakota's in stock but all were 4x4's most were V-8's, about 1/4 to 1/3 were 5 speeds, more then half were CC's, about equally split SLT -vs- sports, and I'm really not sure on the axle ratio's but at least half had limited slip. The local dealer said they didn't stock 2wd either but after I bought my R/T they ended up with 2, one was exactly as you described but had the automatic. The other had the manual but the v-6. I'm sure it's rare for a dealer to order a v-8 2wd with manual for dealer stock, but that doesn't stop the gearheads from custom ordering.

Message: Sorry - I forgot to mention 2wd. I'm in Texas also. I guess I'm one of those gear heads that custom ordered one. I just wish I knew a way to find out exactly how many were made with that setup. Sport or SLT doesn't matter to me. It's the mechanical setup that I'm curious about. You always hear these R/T guys talking about how there were only so many built in their color for their year and how rare their truck is. I wish I had a come back about how rare my truck is.

Message: y22man, I bet Dave Smith in Kellog Idaho had a few SLT's like you described in stock. I don't think the other dealers will make deals with Dave Smith or vice versa. Dave Smith's no haggle pricing has really changed (lowered) the local guy's pricing over the last 10 years to compete. Dave Smith sells everything (including PT cruisers, Prowlers, vipers, anything, GM or DC) for a set price over invoice. I think it's currently about $300, buyer keeps all rebates and incentives. Now on anything not in high demand, the local guys will match Dave Smith prices. I remember when they started at MSRP + additional dealer markup of $2000 and it was a pain just to get then back to MSRP. So I guess thanks Dave Smith even if I have never bought anything from you! (If I ever get a PT, Prowler, or Viper I'll be there though.)

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport Plus Dodge Motor Sports Edition, 4.7l 5-speed, 3.92 gears and there were only 56 made, making it the rareist optioned Dakota ever made. The guy told me never to sell it and that in 10 years it could be worth up to twice what I paid for it which actually wasnt much at 16,0000.

Message: I am ordering an SLT Plus with that combo. I would say that it was hard to find, but not rare. That may not make sense, but it is easier to just order one than try and look around or have to settle for another combo. Its by far the best setup for someone who must have a manual and cares for performance, such as I. I cannot wait to cruise around when I get mine. How long did it take to get your truck? The dealer here told me 6 weeks. I am in Houston and look forward to some beach driving down by the bay. "Life's too short to drive a dodge ram." Thanks, Grady Cowardin.

Message: When I went to buy my truck, as soon as I said 4.7 5-speed it had to be ordered, next the color Intense Blue. This was in Feb 2000, the dealer thought I was nuts getting a 5spd. I got pretty much every thing exepted rear slider, front ABS, elephant ear mirrors and the heavy-duty package. I had to wait 3 months to receive it.
I still think it's a rare truck 2000 Dakota Sport Plus CC 4X4, 4.7, 5-speed, 3:55 LSD and intense blue. I have yet to see a 5-speed around.

Message: Anthony, yours will be rare, b/c I believe that 2000 was the last year that you can get any kind of 4x4 with a 5spd. Correct me if I am wrong, but this is some sort of weird ploy Dodge has to phase out manuals or something. I would rather walk than drive an automatic. Sheesh if I liked auto's why wouldn't I just get a Ford Lightning. Duh! A stick is a must have. Total vehicle control, the only way to drive. I think that the main determinant of speed on a special order depends on the chance of their being a similar model in the line that they can just change over to your specs. Otherwise, the order would get put back in the production sequence, and take 3 months as did yours.

Message: I don't think they are really all that rare around here (CO). There were two on the lot when I bought mine. 2001 4x4 3.92LS 5Spd 4.7L CC SLT+ in Patriot blue and silver. I bought the one without foglights or leather wrapped steering wheel.
Two weeks later, my friend bought one, exact same truck but the Sport+ model in black. He said he had two to choose from as well. He said the other one arrived DOA with a toasted 5spd. :(
