I have a 99 CC 2wd with 72k miles and a 18 gallon tank and im only geting 120-140 miles a tank city driving.I just did a tune up.Didnt help at all.It was missing out but the tune up stoped that.A few people i know have said it might be the o2 sensors and thats what i was thinking too, but its not giving any codes.Could they still be bad and not give a code?Any help here would be very great.Gas prices are way to high to have it using so much gas.Im filling up 2 times a week at about $1.80-$1.98 a gallon here. Thanks for any help.

Wow.. and I thought my mileage was bad.

No excuse for that mileage, though. I would think you're having problems getting air into the engine, at some point.

Must be a recent problem? Or has it been steadily getting worse?

A faulty 02 would give you a light.. shouldn't be worn out at that mileage.

Other than that.. replace the air filter, or check for any blockages in the piping. Might pull out a plug or two and see if they're black (running rich).

O2's don't always throw a code...it could be them. I'm not sure how to check the voltage, but there's a way you can do it using a multimeter and that way you won't be shelling out cash trying to fix the problem without surely knowing the cause. It sounds like an O2 sensor to me though... has it been idling rough or you have you noticed a drop in power? I think those are also symptoms. Larry may know other ideas...I think another cause can be clogged, dirty, or bad injector. Also maybe spark plugs not burning right (total guess there)?

Go to Walmart or Kmart and buy a bottle of STP Complete Fuel System cleaner (it's in a gray bottle, red cap and has that giant MADE WITH JET FUEL picture on it). I ran that through my tank a while back...I was averaging around 15mpg and after that I average around 18-19mpg (both mixed driving though primarily city driving with a heavy foot).

When is the last time you cleaned the throtlebody? I was having bad mileage and a rough idle, I then cleaned the throtle body and my mileage went way up. Went from filling up every week to once every week and a half to two weeks. I know you are suspose to take the TB off to clean it, but I did it the lazy way and just bought a can of TB cleaner and sprayed it in while the truck was running, this has a added benefit of cleaning the o2 sensor at the sametime. I talked to a mechanic I know, and he said as long as you take the truck for a good long drive after clening the TB this method wont hurt anything. It is something you could try that wont cost you a lot of money. As far as cost of gas we are paying 74.4 cent a liter that is 3.35$ a gallon up here in Canada.
