Flowmaster 40 series sounds awesome on my truck until I hit the 4k rpm range, but really how often is that? After the 4k rpm range it just screams loud, so loud I can't even hear anything, but that's only in 3rd gear, the rest sound fine.

Wanna hear what it sounds like on a 99 v6? Go to my site I have a great sound clip. www.mark-world.com/dakota Great idle, 5hitty sounding during acceleration. Sounds like rice. I recommend a Dynomax Super Turbo that's what I have now.

they sound good at idle but like the others have said, it's kinda harsh in the upper RPMs. When i gutted the cat, it sounded a lot better.

I agree with what the others have said...sounds great at idle, but you can tell it's a V6 once it gets moving. Mine's a 40 series with a turndown right off the muffler. Personally I think it's the best sounding muffler you're gonna get for a V6 Dak though.

well i didnt gut the factory one. Kept it "just in case". I gutted an aftermarket Catco Cat that was about half the size with 2.5" inlet/outlet. I got a long steel rod and poked it... i poked it good :D

seriously though, just stick a long steel rod in it and hit it with a hammer till you go all the way through. After that, kinda chew off pieces with it.

now, of course i mention this procedure for off road purposes only.. ;)

btw, the flowmaster sounds better on the V6 if you have a full length tailpipe.

Doesn't matter. Still illegal, if that's what you're getting at.

nope...

off road not meaning "driving on a dirt road".

bob, ever notice how anything that isnt carb exempt states "off road purposes" only.

that means not on a state/city highway/street. You can use it on a track though... or does nascar and nhra use cats because that would be "illegal"?

i had a 50 seies delta flow 3 inch inlet dual outlet muffler on my V6. It sounded good all around but was too loud so i put on a 70 series and now its awesome. Not too loud but loud enough to be noticed. Has a hollow sound to it.
