Subject: low end torque IP: Logged
Message: i was wondering what the best way to get some low end power out of dakota? i have a 1993 extended cab 2wd v6. i love my truck and recently had a flowmaster 40 series delta flow put on with a high flow cat converter... the only problem is that the jerk that did my work put a 3 inch pipe on between the muffer and the cat... so i have about 6 feet of 3 inch piping and it completely kills my torque with the AC on. when the AC is off.. i dont notice it as much... but ive read mixed feelings about air intakes and the V8 throttle bodies as well as crank pullies.. etc. I was wondering if someone could please clear this up for me as i love my truck and am very happy with the midrange and high end but some off the line would be better... thanks guys

Message: I have the same exhaust (different brand but with 3 in pipes) but in my case I gained low end torque. I have no AC, but with the 5 speed, you can compensate with the clutch.
I think the best way to get the low end is to change the gears. In my case, since I have the base 98 Dak, standard cab, short box, it came with the ultra slow 3.21 gears. I want to find some inexpensive 3.90's and a couple it with a PowerTrax LSD. In that way, my truck will be one explosive bundle.

Message: well... unfortunetly i have the automatic. i have the 3.55 gears and they were great for low mid and high... in my opinion the best all around gearing for the truck(before the exhaust.. i think they gutted the cat)... keep in mind though that i am 16 and i need money for gas too.lol. right now id just like to do some cheap mods to see what i can get out of her. thanks.

Message: Cheapest, easiest is take it easy on the right foot. That will give you your biggest gain.

Message: lets see, 16 years old, probably the first vehicle, many friends to impress... take it easy on the right foot? I dont think that adds up. I remember back in my day.... HA!
better to do it now, before gas is even more expensive

Message: well i mean.. im not THAT concerned about gas mileage... so long as i get 12 miles to the gallon.lol. i mean, im not a crazy driver.. spritied maybe.lol. but i usually get about 15 to 17 city and 18 to 20 highway. What about the IAT mod.. will that help my low end at all? IM sure once i get the transmission rebuild that it will definitely help.. power and gas wise.
