I have a 2004 Dakota with a 3.7L V-6 and at an idle it runs rough. Kinda fills like it is missing. Is this normal for this engine, some info please. Thanks

that's not normal. engines that new should not be idling rough or missing. if they are under warranty bring them back to the dealer.

I have an 04 RC 5spd 3.7. Yes it stumbles ever so slightly at idle but nothing sever. I have seen this posted on other sights so I figure its a bug in the software. I have no hesitation what so ever.

So far I've not had any problems out of mine. Every now and then at idle it will have a very faint miss but nothing real noticable. There is a very small hesitation the second you touch the gas but I think that is normal, although there may be a mod you can do to improve it.

The other day when I started my truck it seemed to idle a little rougher that usual. It now has what seems to be a slight hesitation when touching the throttle. I am going to reset the PCM over the weekend and see what happens. It has not thrown any mil lights.

I did a little searching on the web. There seems to be a new TSB (18-034-03) titled "Engine Controls - Idle Undershoot" for the 2004 Dakota 3.7. Sounds like a new PCM flash.

I reset the PCM last night. The idle went back to being very smooth. The off idle throttle response came back to normal. It must some bad table values in the PCM software. The TSB stated above will most likely correct it. I will wait to see if it happens again prior to getting the flash. I do have a question for those that have this problem. Has it done it since new or did it come on over time? Mine seemed to start around 5500 miles.

I have had these problems (rough idle and hesitation) since new and the dealer claims that these are normal problems. The engines are leaned out so much for emissions and having a big cam in the engine. I don't really believe the dealer but not sure want to do.

I have the same thing, rough idle and slight hesitation. The dealer claims that is normal.
Where can you get the new PCM flash to correct the problem.

Thank you.

The TSB was just released. The dealer should have access to the new software. Take the TSB number to the dealer and have them look it up. I just saw on another site where a guy posted that his 04 3.7 dak just broke a valve spring at 8000 miles.

I have an 04 ram 1500 3.7l V6. At first it would idle rough only on a cold start (after sitting overnight etc.), but the problem began to occour anytime I started the engine warm or not. The truck ran fine on the highway. I was given P0300, and P0303 codes indicating multiple cylinder misfire and cylinder 3 misfire. I changed injectors, plugs, swapped around coil packs and nothing seemed to help. Monday I started the truck in my driveway and dropped a rocker arm off. I found the cause was a stuck lifter forced the rocker arm out of place.

me being a mechanic one thing i have found is called an induction clean if you pop off your air hat and push the throttle open and see if the inside of the intake/throttle body is black and gummed up real bad it can cause this problem the dealer can do a proper induction clean and it literally melts the crud off the inside of the intake mine was really bad when i first got it and after the induction cleaning i preformed it seems like a new truck with 130,000 city miles on it

First I'm not sure where this 3.7 v6 came from, I have a 95 dak sport with an 3.9 v6 and have over 200K miles on it and up till recently never had a serious problem. Next thing I knew it would stumble and stall at idle, then it stalled out on the freeway. I replaced EVERY sensor, the ECM, the distributor, plugs, plug wires, injectors, vacuum lines, cat convertor, but it wasn't till I replaced the intake manifold gaskets that the problem stopped and the truck runs great. Went through 4 repair shops and approx. $2500.00 but still feel it was worth it.

It might be time to see if you pull up a exhaust valve seat. The Cylinders that are not firing are from a lack of compression. View on spark plug hole with cam and check it out. Oil getting blackened more often are signs. I get back into it after let me know how it goes.

That's not the end of the story. Castings have been made lighter from taking the meat out of the webbing around the exhaust seat area right where it's needed. It tends to twist you know from heat. Piss/Poor Q.A. X-Ray Sine waves would have been detected that. 3.9 engine that it replaced had that problem along with 4.0.
