Message: Hey guys. Could someone tell me if Valvoline Synpower is a good synthetic motor oil. I'm considering switching to it at next oil change. So, if anyone has any comments on this oil then let me know, good or bad. Thanks!

Message: Thanks for the replies. I am also a Valvoline user. But what about Mobil 1 synthetic oils. I've been searching and have found that many people favor it as well. Are there any major differences between the Mobil 1 and Valvoline synthetics other than the Valvoline isn't a true synthetic and i assume the Mobil 1 is? Or does it come down to personal preference.

Message: I was a faithful Valvoline user until I used the Synpower. I was not impressed at all. Paid top dollar (about 2.50-3.00 a quart) and it suggested changing it every 3K. I'm not going to spend that much for an oil that is not a true synthetic and has a suggested change interval of 3k, and not to mention no gain in performance or anything other things that could be noticed in that amount of time. I have switched to AMSOIL as many others have and I am very happy. I don't advertice for them as some people say about others that speak highly of AMSOIL. I paid 4.40 a quart for AMSOIL 25k and about 2.50 for Synpower that is not a true synthetic and must be changed every 3k. Just look at the change intervals and the AMSOIL will pay for it self and then save you quiet a bit even if you drive 12K a year. Valvoline Synpower is not a bad oil, but in my opinion is not worth the price that you pay and get little to no performance gain. Just my opinion. Hope that helps.

Message: chris d, i would say it comes down to personal preference and /or experience. when i first started using valvoline i purchased a new gmc s-15 in '83. used nothing but valvoline super HPO 30w. summer & winter(in south louisiana we don't get much winter) anyway, @ 80,000 miles i had to change leaky valve cover gaskets. when i pulled them, no crud on anything under them and wiped out the covers and they looked brand new. this is changing the oil every 5,000 miles. sold the truck with 130,000 miles and oil pressure was the same as new. so that's how i got hooked. sorry for ramblin'.
