Subject: Changing your trans fluids?
IP: Logged

Message:
Aloha dudes and duddettes,

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 with a 42RE trans and a transmission cooler. How often should I change the tranny fluid and filter? I did it twice already with a mileage of 60,000. Any help is appreciated.

Mahalo,
Scotty

I believe that every 30,000 miles is a good time interval between fluid and filter change.

once a year if you want to be paranoid

hey the cleaner the better right ? it'll just last that much longer

we are talking about a complete flush right not just the pan?

Once a year with normal to driving is more than enough using the pan-drop method. At work, I recommend doing the pan & filter at 30k, a flush (without filter) at 60k, filter at 90k, then both at 120k. Like engine oil, you want to keep the filter clean too. I start with the filter because a new transmission will 'break-in' and metal filings will fall in, and getting them out sooner rather than later can't hurt.

Cheers,

i say change it all, do you do half an oil change ?

seriously, do you just drain out two quarts of oil and say it's
good to go? that maybe fine for your vehicles but it sure as hell
isn't enough for me and it shouldn't be for you either

do it all do it right
