Subject: new tires brakes and rotor at 28k ? ?

Message:
I have read in consumer reports and other publishing’s that the brakes are way below satisfactory on the DAKOTA. I tend to agree. From day one, I didn’t like the way the truck brakes to stop. I bought this brand new in spring of 2002. 02 DAK, CC 4wd, 3.9 I have just turned 28,200. Today at the dealership, I got my annual free inspection. And the front brakes AND rotors DID NOT pass. I was even told, the are considered dangerous.

NOW, I never drive OR brake like and A$$. As a matter of fact I have never had to slam the brakes. I am a very good and defensive driver.

That being said.... I would like to know every ones opinion on what a high quality brake and combo rotor would be for this truck. If I have to do this every 25k to 30k, im dumpin this lemon and buying a Toyota.

I guess I should mention, about 6 months of the year I have a very heavy cap on, and during that six months, im hauling no more than a total of 500 pounds. (Including the cap)

I am not a mechanic. I don’t even do my own brakes. But this time..... I want to buy some real quality. NO MOPAR BRAKES!!!!

SAFTY FIRST. QUALITY SECOND. If dodge can not provide a quality brake system. Then my life and the life’s of my friends and other travelers are in danger. I WONT STAND FOR THAT!!!

Please, I want to read all the input as possible. And any suggestions on where to purchase. Online or in western PA.

I have 10 days from today to fix my brakes or they will charge me for the job next time I go back.

Thanks for taking the time and all your help.
Respectfully: Wayne

Go to a local Auto Zone and get the EXTREME rotors for your truck... They are drilled, slotted, heat treated, and thicker than the stock junk rotors... They also stop much, much better than the stock and are the fairly cheapest direct rotor replacements for this truck... How ever as cheap as they are they are still $85 apiece... Then get yourself a good set of lifetime or stock replacement pads... These rotors should never warp or cause problems of any sort and are more than worth it by the time you figure in cheaper rotor turnings and or replacements every so few miles...

I had to replace my tires, rotors and brake pads at about 25,500 miles. Midas said the rotors and brakes were just cheap. Thats not really what I wanted to hear after putting so much money into buying my truck. sadly, thats just the way it is.

It would be stupid to go out and buy a different truck just because of some cheap parts. Because you know every car out there has some cheap part thats going to fail some time or another.

Just put some quality brake parts on the truck and keep truckin.

the way the economy is headed and from what i have heard about parts in gernal...they are suppose to have a "set" life anyway, so now with that being said does it really matter? or is it jus speculation?
