Subject: Check engine & not shifting IP: Logged
Message: Ok, went to work one day and everything was fine. Was leaving work and it wouldn't come out of 1st gear. Pulled over and checked over the truck and fluid is fine oil is fin and no leaking.Start down the road again and it still wouldn't come out. Well I really put my foot down and road it up to 4k rpm and finally shifted. Then the check engine light came on. Rode fine all the way home, but the next day same deal? Anyone heard of this?
I appreciate any help!!!!

Message: Its a 99' sport. How do I check those connections and what do I clean them with? It runs fine once I get going and it warms up its just that intial startoff through 1st into second on a cold engine. And of course the check engine light is lit all the time.

Message: go to autozone and get your "free" check engine light inspection, really, no charge for the service and they will tell you where the bad part is located, what it takes to change it, and sell you a new one, and if you need it-loan you (for a fee) the tools to change it, most times for a bit less then the dealer.

Message: on my '95, with a sequence of turning the key, i can get the check engine light to flash the code. I read this in the haynes manual. But autozone and advance both do the free check engine scans.

Message: Had a similar problem on my 2001.
The code it threw was P1763 - governor pressure sensor output too high.
Ended up that a snap-ring had broke inside the tranny and a bit of metal caught in the sensor.
$2500 later and a new (re-manufactured anyway) transmission and off I went. Don't worry those were Canadian dollars.
Good luck.

Message: I had the same problem one morning except when it finnally shifted into second it would go back down to first. I brought it to the dealer and they said they were going to have to pull the transmission blah blah blah. What it turned out to be was some sensor that they replaced connected to the tranny that monitors the pressure and tells it when to shift. Everything was good after that.

Message: Never trust a dealer. My truck was surging 100-200 rpm at highway speeds and the Dodge dealer told me I needed a new torque converter 900$. Got on here got some helpfull advice and narrowed it down to a 25$ Throttle Position Sensor. Those damm sheisters. Thought about going back there and waiting for the guy that told me that. With my steel toes of course. : )

Message: same thing happened to my 03 dakota the day after i bought it, but then again mine dakota has over 300,000 miles on it. i found that if you let the engine idle for about a minute, the engine wont rev up but you loose power when you first start out. i got an estimate of $650 to get it fixed
