Subject: got pulled over!!!!!!!!!!! IP: Logged
Message: I got pulled over for my exhaust being too loud! I have a flowmaster 40 series delta flow, single in, dual out, w/ turndowns. Heres what happened: I turned up the hill to my house and a city cop just happened to be hiding(no lights on and parked between cars) at a house below mine. I got out of my truck and was heading in when this car comes flying down my street and then the cop hits the blue lights. I was like WTF!!!!!!!! she cuts her car off, leaves the damn flashing lights on, gets out and says "did you have your exhaust cut off?" I was like I have a muffler on there. Then she goes "well, thats not legal" and I was like well, I have been driving around w/ a loud muffler for over a year now(used to have a glasspack w/ a turndown) and I havent been stopped by any state troopers or any other cops. geez, so why start bitchin about it? She goes "I talked to the other guys in the neighborhood about their vehicles bein too loud so now I gotta tell you". I was like well I aint gonna get pipes put on it any time soon and she said that I just needed to quit "speeding" down my street all the time. I guess it doesnt help when you have a sh!tload of old ppl living all around you and coming in around 9:30 at night or later. Just thought I'd let y'all know about my excitement.

Message: Same here...Original Flowmaster 40 series with a turndown right off the muffler. I drive through the neighborhood at 3 and 4am many times a week. I just make sure I idle. Although on a hill, you're pretty screwed. It pretty much just depends on if you get a prick/bitchy cop.

Message: In MA, where towns are having a hard time wording noise ordinances, the Registry of Motor Vehicles proclaimed that exhaust systems are not allowed to be louder than factory. How they can enforce that, I have no idea. But people are failing inspection for it.
Our problem is wigger music. Loud stereo is one thing, but a couple of cars come by every night with windows shut and bass booming so loud, the ground is actually shaking and my house is moving, 40 feet in from street. I don't care if they melt the mush in their heads, but they'll never hear a siren in time to pull over.

Message: I've never had a problem w/ the cops.
I've got a Gibson single exhaust My wife can hear me a block away. But the 'bumpin stereo's are a big issue around here. I always take it easy in my own neighborhood, it's a good idea not to piss off the poeple that know where you live. It sounds like someone living near greendak ain't happy, and has called the local cops......

Message: i live in north carolina. the police chief that was here before the one that stopped me last night was cool with my exhaust. the woman cop that talked to me last night was like I could write ya a ticket, but I have worked a 14 hour shift and I dont feel like it, so just keep it down. I was like well, f*ck it and went in my house. There is an retired police chief that lives right above me and he is one of the main bastards callin in all this bullsh!t on me.
Whenever I move out after college, I'm gonna take my muffler off one night and just come through here revving my motor and do a big burnout and then leave!

Message: Why attract unnecessary attention to yourself, I have 2 Dodge Dakotas. I want all the power I can get out of them, but at least I show alittle respect for my neighbors. I have a v6 and a v8 dak, and I run flowmaster 70 series on them, still lots of performance but much quieter than the 40 series. My son had the 40 series on his 92 v6 it certainly made it sound like a v8-loud and very obnoxious. My son ended losing his license over his truck. Learn to have a little respect for others around you, maybe they don't like to hear your lous exhaust, especially when late at night. If you have out of the house at 5:00 or 6:00 am to get to work alittle early, the last thing you want to hear is a loud exhaust in the neighborhood when you go to bed. I in my late 40's, if that makes me an OLD FART so be it. Just remember your time will come, you will be on your own paying your bills and have to earn a living. We'll see how it is then.

Message: I just keep my exhaust to an idle when coming in late...speed limit in my neighborhood is 25 so I just accelerate to 25 and then let off and idle all the way home. No complaints yet. I'm sure the people on the corner love me where I have to accelerate to get up to 25 though, lol.
I am curious to find out what the cops would say if they pulled me over and said one of the old people keeps reporting me and I just simply said, "Well, why the hell are their hearing aids still in?" It'd prolly get me a ticket or two for being a jackass...but it'd be fun. I don't have a problem with old people in general (old = much older than late 40's btw...lol), just old people in the driver's seat and the nosy ones that always come out and bitch at you and your friends for WALKING around on the sidewalks aftr dark. My god...you'd think it was illegal to go on a walk around here if you're under the age of 25. We had one guy threaten to call the police because we looked "suspicious." Needless to say I think he did call the police after I let out a few choice words/gestures. Anyway...I'm rambling, sorry.

Message: Isn't flowmaster mufflers 50 state legal. So if you have a flowmaster muffler, single in, dual out, then you should be legal. I had that same problem last summer and got it dropped because of flowmaster being 50 state legal.

Message: there are some old people around my neighborhood, but they don't mind my exhaust. i had a friend with a Ram 1500, had a 318 i believe, with a dual flowmaster. sounded good, but my grandma was always complaining to me about his "gutted" muffler and i never could convince her it wasn't gutted. seriously though, i think two of the ones in my neighborhood have really bad health problems, so i go slow through their section. you should show respect to them by keeping your foot out of it cause some do have their reasons, unless you already keep it slow and quiet as possible and can't help that it's loud. i guess then you're screwed. good luck with it.

Message: I dont try to bring unnecessary attention to myself. I had the flowmaster put on b/c I like the sound of it and if I was REALLY concerned with what my neighbors thought, I still wouldnt have gotten a different muffler. I cant help that I have to accelerate going up a big hill towards my house. I know what its like to have loud vehicles to pass by at nite. I have to get up at 5:30 every morning to go to work. I'm not tryin to be obnoxious or unruly, I just have very ornery old neighbors that bitch about everything. the town I live in is small and I guess that the few cops that we have dont have anything better to do than pick on young ppl.

Message: Damn your exhaust must be loud as hell. Mine is loud too but not enough to get pulled over for. Ive got a Walker (Dynomax I believe) single in single out and its got a good rumble to it mainly at idle and low cruising speeds. I would like to hear what a 40 series Flowmaster sounds like.

Nope. This is state law, not federal. He had nothing to do with writing it. But we should find out which state senators and reps supported it.
