Message: Far as I know....no 340 crate engines out there.
If MP still offers a 340 race "R" block I'm sure Hughes, Muscle Motors or any decent Mopar engine builder would put one together for ya though.

Message: Why are there no 340 crates? I am helping a friend with a 340 six pack, and we were hopping to use a preasumbled motor.

Message: I would imagine because the 360 has all the potential (and more with the 360mag)of the 340. I guess DC decided to make one small block crate to cover the range of what may be needed. They have 300hp to 435hp, No 340 needed with those #'s IMO. Like I said, I have no doubt someone will build and send you a "crated" 340 engine if you want.

Message: since no one makes a 340 crate, the answer I gave him was the only viable alternative. buy the bare block and all the internals from Mopar Performance and assemble it himself! If he uses Mopar Performance's small block building book, and has a buddy that is mechanically inclined to assist him it will be a peice of cake and might be a bit cheaper as the assembly will be by him instead of paying some factory guy 28 bucks an hour plus beenies and overhead that up the labor rate to more then 90 per hour. Thats right 90 per hour is what Ma Mopar figures it costs them per employee on the factory floor.
But of course you being the boy genious that you are, you knew all that, right?

Message: No, we didn't all "know that" you finally said it.
Don't know how many small blocks you've built "uh" but I've never been able to rebuild one with NEW head cores, NEW block and NEW crank in any of my SB's with pump gas HP #'s for the price of a crate.
You need to build an engine or 2 before you go spouting off "labor hours" and crap, and if you do actually happen to build one that has the HP of a comparable MP crate engine for less, I really want to see you put your name on it and a warranty.
In short....I think your picking a fight and you are assuming way too many things. If someone asks a question why no answer it instead of leading him to another avenue like a used-car-salesman?
This gentleman clearly has enough vehicle knowledge to know what you are talking about but.....he didn't ask "how can I build a 340" but "Does anyone know where I could find a good 340 crate motor." Get it?

Message: If I was gonna rebuild it, I'd use the motor it has, I wanted a 340 Crate, looks like it will be getting a 360, if it were mine I'd give it the 426 HEMI I got sitting in the garage. It's not quite done but damn close. Still considering putting it in the 'Kota. Anyone know what manual tranny would bolt up to a 426?

Message: Keisler's got one and of course the old A833 will.
If its got the original engine in it, it would make it worth more to rebuild it. Unless of course your gonna bag it like I will be doing with my original 340 car soon. I'll be doing a 390 stroker.
