Subject: a/c compressor problem IP: Logged
Message: On a long trip home last night, the a/c stopped working. I stopped off at a gas station, filled up the tank. When I started the truck again, i heard this loud sound coming from under the hood. I found that tha a/c compressor clutch was the cause. It was like that a/c kept kicking on and off even when the a/c and heat were turned off. I finished the trip home (100+ miles). The pulley was spinning so the belt isn't being abnormally worn. I saw some forums on here where some people were by-passing the compressor by using a smaller belt.
what (if any) problems can result by driving the vehicle under such conditions. Other than needing the new compressor, anything else I should check out? It is a '95 3.9L V6 4x4.

Message: Problem is NOT the compressor !
Actual problem is that the ' juice ' has leaked away over the years.
You need a recharge..

Message: Dan M,
If you determine it's the compressor, I've got one from a '98. Works fine. Just make me an offer.

Message: I just had the A/C charged in the spring (late march, early april). I suppose it could be out. I'm actually taking the vehicle to a shop to have the system checked this week.
Davido, i will let you know if the problem is indeed the compressor.
