Message: I have a chance to buy a 1993 auto ext cab dakota with the V6 Magnum engine and 156,000 miles. I was wondering how good this engine is and how reliable is it? I will use it for hauling a few things about it, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

239 = 318 - 2 cyl
318 = One of the best and most popular derby engines as well as one of Chryslers best motors

Message: I like to use the 239ci or 318ci in my chrysler cars for derbies. Both run great the times Ive used them. I had one of my 239 blocks with 213,000 miles on it go to the feature and finish 3rd overall! As long as they have fuel they will run! I would say that 93 has some life left on her but how much are they wanting? Some more info would help.

Message: I have a '95 Dakota club cab 4x4 with 3.9L Magnum. It has just over 142,000 miles on it. I've experienced a few things fail over the years (I purchased it in summer '98 with 39k miles).
I do regular mainteance / prevenative maintenance on it and it's been very good and reliable.
The biggest issues I've had so far
- a/c compressor just failed (see previous post)
- fuel guage failure (happened once, failing again) - i can't rely on gas guage to determine how much fuel, i reply on milage and gas low light.
- radiator / water pump, hoses, etc. (likely coolant system parts that i expected to fail)
- master cylinder which caused roters, calipers, etc to fail.
- replace brake pads 10-14 months, i do a lot of stop and go city driving.
I'll admit, i'm not johnny on the spot with the routine maintenance, sometims oil changes happen at 4,000 miles ,etc.
I've pulled trailers (2-3k lbs) with no issues other than horrible gas milage (10-12 mpg).
if the money is right, go for it.

Message: i sold my 94 dak over two years ago for a new 02 smae truck. i had a 94 cc, 3.9 4wd, i dont remember what gears it had. but i liked that truck more than the one i have now. it had more room, more power, better gas mileage. more comfortable bench seats! more room under the hood. when i traded it in, it had just over 126,000. i bought it used it had 38,000. i got rid of it for two reasones.
1, the transmission was going bad. it it was the second one it had since i owned it. AND 2, it was starting to rust pretty badly, and i didnt want to send the time and money.
other than i made the mistake of letting dodge sell me another factory tranny, i would have kept that truck. i know there was little difference with the 93, 94, and 95s. my only suggestion is..... GIVE THE TRANSMISSION A GOOD LOOK OVER !!!!!!!

Message: I have a 90' Dakota and it has 282k on it and its a pre-mag 3.9. It runs great and does everything I need it to do and more. All though it lacks power and fuel mileage it is a great engine. The best part is it is all orignal, even the 3 speed trans with overdrive. I only wish I could find some good performance parts for it to increase my overall HP and Tourque. Any ideas or comments?

I dont know much about trucks .. at all but i was just wondering if those engines have timing chains or timing belts , and if its a timing chain how often to they have to be replaced? I keep hearing people say, make sure the timing belts been replaced if it has over 100 *** on it but now someone told me trucks have timing chains? Im confused !! lol
