You should not have any problems as long as you use the intake manifold from the 2000 3.9 on the 92. The 2000 does not have an EGR and the '92 does.

I know this is getting to be an aged thread, but I wanted
to know if anyone else was getting the life out of their
3.9 that I am. It's a 97 Dakota 2wd 5 speed all original
except the ball joints. It has 327,877 miles. Runs like it
just rolled off the lot. The clutch doesn't even slip. I have
a video on YouTube of it turning to 325k maybe at 350-
400k it will get the 318 I always wanted.

Is it possible to get a good deep sound out of this 3.9L or do I need to put a 318 in the B@*#h?

I was just wondering if the 2001 dodge Dakota 4x4 v6 3.9l
engine at 181000km for $4000 is a good truck to invest
in...and what are the pros and cons over all?

Mickey,
Check out my YouTube videos of 3.9 exhaust. It
will never have that v8 sound, but I like the
sound of mine. My YouTube username is

RC, CC or QC? If it is a Quad Cab w/ an auto 4wd and a 3.9, I'd stay away from it. Way too much truck for a 3.9. Check Kelley Blue Book or NADA for pricing.

Need help deciding to buy.

Message:
I'm in the process of looking for a good used
pickup truck and a friend of mine's father has
a beautiful 1995 Dodge Dakota Club Cab LE Sport
with a long box. His father bought it new has
always been garaged, except for a few minor
scratches it looks near new inside and out and
under the hood.
The truck has an automatic transmission and the
3.9L Magnum V6 engine. A gorgeous truck!!

I have no experience with Dodge products and
other friends tell me to run don't walk away
from this truck because regardless of what it
looks like it is still almost a 20 year old
truck and age alone is going to begin taking
its toll causing me to do nothing but chase
repairs and drain my wallet.

Other friends tell me that Dodge drivetrains
are historically known for being junk compared
to other vehicles.

I guess I need more unbiased opinions in order
to make a decision. It is obvious that this
original owner of this truck took very good
care of it during its one owner and 86,000
miles.

Thanks in advance!

I appreciate your wisdom.

Just picked up a 87Dakota 3.9 2w/d auto. 126,000 on a broken speedo. Pushing a little oil, Great shape otherwise. Planning on keeping for a LONG time. A 3.9 supposed to be easy ?) A 318 not as easy and more complicated. Both would be magnum engine rebuilds. Automatic same year as engine. Warm but not a tire burner is the target. What snags to look for ? 3.9 budget vs 318 personal desires are fighting for the final vote. Opinions are like noses, everyone should have one. So how about some opinions.

Confused Bud not wiser

I purchased a 2010 Dakota Big Horn. Only 28,000 miles on it.
I want to install Dual exhaust system?
Want a nice sound but no rumbling in the cockpit.
Would appreciate any advice. Will I gain better mileage.
Thanks.

I have two 97 Dakotas with 3.9 and they both still run great one has 206,000 miles and the other has 225,000 miles. I have a friend with a 95 full size ram with a 3.9 with 345,000 miles that still runs good. The only repair he has done is replace the dipstick tube because it rusted off from the outside due to MN winter salt.

I have a ? about a Dakota's exhaust since im not to truck savy. I am going to have to replace the exhaust. it has a "low growl" that I like when I step on the gas. I was wondering if someone out there could tell me if its advisable to get that same sound out of the new exhaust and if so what kind/brand/name should I get? I don't want anyone to hear me coming from 100 miles away just want a nice low growl. this is on a 95 Dakota slt 2 wd.
