Message: I am in need of someone who knows a little bit about a dodge dakota 1990 v6 truck. The truck runs great but dies or wont start frequently. Today while trying to start it I noticed something wierd. When returning the key to off position it made a clicking noise and I could feel the throttle mecanism move at my feet. I then tracked the clicking noise to the side of the carborator. There is a part that sits right in front of the throttle cable assembly with a little rod coming out of it. When returning the key to the off position this little rod was moving sparaticly. What is this? Is it a choke. Could this have something to do with it dying. Help.........

Message: thats the idle motor, that operates like that
coil may be over heatting
check fire at dist pull coil wire and hold the wire about a 1" from ground, have some one crank the motor over, when it does it again
check to see if the fuel pump will run when it does it,if not, check pick-up in dist
the power wire to the pcm may be corroded
untape the wires by the battery going to the firewall there should be three large red wires
that are spliced together,check this splice,clean,soldier together,retape
these are a few things

Message: I also have an issue with my starter motor. i think the mine is shot, the motor makes clicking/grinding noise speraticly whenever the throttle is not being pressed. I can also feel it vibrate evertime the noise accurs, if im toughing the idle motor. How easy is it to replace this part for a layperson who can do as much as change brakes, changel oil, other less technicle stuff.

Message: 3.9L's are notorious to chew up distributor gears. It's just a guess. But I spent about 1,200 bucks and three mechanics on a computer, new dis. cap, map sens, and a whole buch of other crap untill I found it was a $60 dis. gear. It's worth the check. Good luck!
