Subject: 2004 Dakota: Yes or No? IP: Logged
Message: I was thinking about buying a new 2004 Dakota. But reading through the forum here about warped brake rotors, poor gas mileage and replacing the ball joints every 20K miles has me rethinking it. Should I wait for the 2005 and hope they've fixed all the problems?

Message: G'day I'd buy a 2004 anyday over 2005, they've ruined the look & style of daks with that ugly front there gonna put on the 2005 like the new Durango.

Message: Oh, I wouldn't worry about it. The trucks are fine. You'll only get out what you put in, and that includes care and regular maintainance. My '03 is fine, and I know of no other problems in properly maintained and cared for Daks owned by any of my friends, relatives or coworkers. The Daks are good little trucks. Just take care of them and don't beat the snot out of them. At least not on a regular basis. My truck runs fine, stops fine and gives me pretty good mpgs. No clunking, either. 44k+ miles.

Message: I would say '04, unless you really like the look of the '05. Wait till the end of the '04 modle year and get a great deal, plus, the '05 will be much heavier than the '04 and the 3.7 will perform the same as a 3.9 with all that extra weight. The '04 with the 3.7 should be much quicker than the '03 with a 3.9 Just like the Gen II's are quicker than the Gen III's due to wieght. Your deision, which looks better to you?

Message: My .02, go for the 04 and if you don't mind a V6, consider the 3.7L. You'll be pleased with the power. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it at all.

Message: I bought my 04 in mid june and got a great deal as the dealer was already trying to clear them out to get a larger allotment of the 05's. All kinds of rebates available out there right now too.
