Subject: Smoke coming out of oil breather cap. IP: Logged
Message: I am having problems with my truck. I have a 99 3.9L Dak, and I am having smoke coming out thru my oil breather cap on my drivers side valve cover. You can tell the smoke is due to oil burning. I have yet to take the valve cover off to investigate further. Just figured I would ask to see if anyone might know what might be wrong before I start in on something I might not even be able to fix.
Thank you for any help.

Message: either the PCV valve is plugged or it's excessive blow-by hwich is caused by worn oil control rings. how many miles does it have?

Message: Oh, and I no longer have a PCV valve/hose on that side. Now I have a breather cap with a high flow filter on it to try and keep some, if not all the oil smoke from being sucked in thru my intake.

Message: there is some smoke that will come from the pcv
hole if you remove the valve, this is common,
the motor needs to breathe
no smoke cold, more as motor warms up,heat is the cause
is it using more oil then it did before you notice this?if not i would,nt worry about it
if you add a quart of oil 1500-3000 mi is not
uncommon
by pulling the plugs you can tell alot,if you have bad oil rings the plugs or plug will show
which cyl its on
