Message: I have a 93 dakkota with the 3.9 engine, and am haveing trouble with ignition timeing. Is the dist. drive slot in the engine block moveable with out a tear down? This Truck has had a problem with timeing as long as I have owned it. No power and lifter noise are driveing me nuts. This is my first late model Dodge.

Message: Timing is non-adjustable...it's controlled by the PCM. Check the timing chain (or replace it)...once they've got some slack in them, they make a lifter-tick type noise and do cause some driveability issues eventually.

Message: you must have misunderstood what I was driveing at Boomer...I was trying to index the distributor! I replaced the timeing chain a few months ago but the truck was sluggish and made one hell of a clatter at idel and under power. Chiltons has such a wonderful manuel for the Dakota that they forgot to include that there is a V6&V8 timeing mark past TDC. So thanks to Speedtweaks I found out how to set the timeing the right way. It runs much better now!!! Thanks for the interest.

What do you want, dist only controls when the
injectors fire not timing
Timing is controled by the comp and base is set
from crank sensor on rear of engine
Timing chain cam 6 o-clock crank noon is TDC
you can set them both at noon but than you may
have to change dist 180 and set injector sync
What are you trying to do???
