are the 4.7L motors dual over head cam? also what should I look for a 4.7L or a 318, so I can have a five speed V8 dakota? What motor is better and for what reasons?

the 4.7 is a single over head cam.

then how come on krcperformance.com it says that the cam for the 4.7L comes with both right and left side cams?

because there's one cam for the left side cylinder head, and one for the right side cylinder head. that means theres only one cam above each head, hence single overhead cam.

a SOHC 4 cylinder only has one cam because it only has one cylinder head.

a SOHC 6 or 8 cylinder has two cams because it has two cylinder heads.

a DOHC 4 cylinder has two cams and a DOHC 6 or 8 cylinder has four cams because of the two heads.

the 5.2/5.9/3.9 (and just about all other pushrod motors) have the cam in the belly... and only needs one.
