Message: As much as it hurts to type this to you now... I need a little help. My dak is for sale...
I'm lookin at $2500 OBO, but Im kinda lookin for some opinions from you guys.
Here's the info:
1991 Dakota 4x4 SE
Club Cab
V6
177,268 Miles
Automatic
Red/ Black trim/Details
Red interior
Runs great, you wouldnt even know it had 100,000 miles by just listening to it.
Rebuilt Transmission 20 miles ago. Shifts like new.
Brand spankin new U-joints in the rear shaft.
4X4 Works with no troubles of any kind.
Body is great, paint is bright and shiny.
Only rust is on the passenger side door, two small holes on either bottom edge, Both have been bondoed up, and only need paint.
Exhaust is same age as transmission. True dual setup, no cats, and Cherry bomb mufflers.
New front brakes 100%, Rear brakes 70%
The only things needing attention is the windshield needs replaced.
It needs blinker housings ( IE, The chrome trim on either side of the grill) and that is all due to an encounter with a herd of deer on an icy day. (body panels untouched)
A few fuses need replaced
and the O2 sensor needs to be put back in.
Other than that, the truck is ready to go.
I see no reason why I couldnt get $2500 OBO for it... Let me know what you think, Blue book for "Average" condition is $3,095.

Message: Only issue I see is if you sell it in a state that has emissions inspections. Buyer will come back to you and you will be bound by law to replace the cats.

Message: You just described my truck. I think you are reasonable. Shoot higher and let the buyer negotiate you down. On emissions, Kracker is right, but you have a low sale price allowing the buyer to install one silly high flow cat, air pump, O2, belt, and a couple other components you may or may not have. Cost is under 595 if you still have the parts and do it yourself.

Message: Well, the only advice I can offer is based on my experience selling my old coughcoughchevy truck last year.
-Shoot a little high than what you actually want.
Gives you room for the buyer to beat you down a little, which they will do anyway.
-Don't list it "OBO". Seems to make people think that you'll take anything for it.
-If you have the time, clean it really good inside and out. The interior of my old truck was absolutely filthy (it was a work truck) I got some armorall multi-purpose cleaner and spent a few hours scrubbing the seats, dash, carpet, door panels, etc. Came out so nice I actually considered keeping it.
-Fix the little things like fuses, maybe even the chrome trim if you can. Fewer things for the buyer to pick on (which they will do anyway). Be prepared for the guy that runs his finger over every little ding and picks out every little flaw just to get you to think that your truck isn't worth what you're asking.
-Have maintenance records.
-Have the "Kelly Blue Book" and NADA pricing printouts showing that truck is worth more than you're asking.
I'm sure that there's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. I do remember that it was quite a hassle selling it myself, but it was nice when I finally sold it and got the price that I wanted. I wanted $2500, asked for $2950. I just parked it out on the street in front of my house (busy road) with a sign in the window. Had about a dozen people look at it. It took about a month. I was in no rush to sell it so I held out for the price that I wanted.
Also, I checked out a few sites, such as "carbuyingtips.com" and read both the "how to sell" and "how to buy" sections.
Good luck!

Message: Thanks you guys, I appreciate the help. Yeah, Michigan really has no emission testing or anything, so legally it's not really an issue. I'm puttin it in my garage sale on friday, and if it doesnt sell there, It'll be for sale until it does. I know what you guys are sayin about askin more than you want, I figure I'll ask $2500, but I'm not going lower than $2100 or so... I'm sure I can get that out of it, at least. I'm DEFINENTLY not in a hurry to sell it, so If it doesn't go for a good price, It'll finish out it's years with me, which really isn't a problem, I love my Dak.
My real reason for selling, though. (Don't hate me) Is that I'll be buying an 86 Bronco with the money... I'll use that to go offroad and for hunting and fishing. My dak could handle it, but It's not exactly... economical for that. It's loong, and turns wide as ever. Besides, I would hate to scratch up my Dak. I'd rather just beat the piss out of an old Ford. It's all in the best interest of my truck. lol.
Yeah, I'll let you guys know what happens and how much I get out of it.
P.S. I'm spending some time tomorow to go out and aromor all the interior and use carpet cleamer, and wax the body and wash it. I know that helps alot. It's all about appearences for some people.
