Subject: next mod? IP: Logged
Message: alright, i have been putting some money into my truck lately and can't decide on what to do next. so far i have put 3923 plugs, intake, and 40 series muffler, and i'm going to do the 180 thermo in the next week or two. i was thinking about getting headers, but i was told the next best thing would be a chip. which would be the best to get next? i heard headers don't help as much as a chip. if the chip is best what brand is best for 3.9 magnum? is it easy to install and do you have to set something on it before install? thanks for any advice.

Message: what year is the dakota? if its a 98 and up get a super chips tuner. how much money do u have? you should aslo look into a after market tb or a v8 tb. the tb is in the top 3 for power mods

Message: There's a few mods you can do that will have the same effect as a chip for like $30...ie. crank[shaft?] position sensor. The best chip out there I believe is the Jet Stage 2. Depending on the year of your Dakota, look into getting a Superchips Tuner (I think it works on late 98+ daks). It will definitely be a big power booster, plus you can choose different settings...like the 87 octane program, performance, towing, etc (not sure what all is on it). It also can recalibrate your speedo if you get different gears or different diameter tires AND it can pull diagnostic codes. Definitely worth the money, but make sure you buy from an authorized dealer because sometimes you have to send it back to have it reprogrammed (it's very common because of the way the Dodge computers are...there are MANY different programs I guess). I think they're around $400 but that might be a bit high.

Message: it's an '03. right now i only have about 250 to spare for it, i'll have about 200 more by the end of the week. do the V8 TB's bog down the 3.9's? i was gonna get one from the junkyard, but have heard that an aftermarket 48mm is best. thanks for the info.

Message: Some say you'll lose a very small amount of low-end torque...but it should be fine. An aftermarket 48mm would be best, but if you're on a tight budget, you'll notice gains with the V8 tb still. Don't forget depending on your linkage, you may need a new cable too (around $30 from the dealer).

Message: hmm, tuner or chip is a little more pricey than i first thought. if i saw the right thing on the company website, the superchips tuner is retail $465 so i'll probably get one a few add-on's from now. sure is tempting though, i know a guy that runs a speedshop so i might can get a good buy on one.

Message: I got a ported and polished V6 TB for sale! It should give almost the same performance as the V8 TB (unmodified) and is a drop in replacement, no cables need to be changed. Plus I will include a new manifold gasket.
you can see it at http://www.freewebs.com/jguertin/throttlebody.htm
It negotiable, but I'd like to see about $125

Message: First of all: "Intercooled ofcourse"--You seen blowers without this critical component? Was that a Nissan or a Grand National? Second: Ford sells superchargers, everybody else makes turbochargers.
