Subject: problem IP: Logged
Message: the bearings in my a/c compressor went out and it makes the noise like to metals are rubbing together but i was just woundering if the bearings in the compressor will ever lock up were the pully will stop spinning im only 16 and i cant afford a new compressor right now is this something to worry about because im not really woried about the a/c or the heater as much as im woried about the pully locking up

Message: You could just get a non-A/C belt and not route the belt around it for now. On my old chevy the compressor locked and burnt the belt, so it can happen.

Message: man this sucks i was driving out of town and i stoped at a gas station and my truck wouldnt start back up so i poped the hood and it turns out that my a/c compressor locked up and my truck wanted to start but it could really push the belt and this happined around 1:30 i the morning i called the tow truck place and by the time they got there it was around 4 in the morning and i had them tow it to my house witch now its like 6:12 and i was woundering how much a new a/c compressor would cost or a used one

Message: 16 yrs old, mark. Read the post. Cant afford it, man. Compressor clutch engages/disengages as A/C relay energizes. Unplug harness at compressor, run engine, check for friction by listening. If it spins should be safe. Should be (but it's a chance). Reinstall harness and pull out relay to disable compressor. There is detailed maintenance instructions in factory repair manual. Your decision is to fix it, replace it, bypass it as Ozric posted, or just pull relay. Check ebay for parts often.

Message: mark's cricket, even if the compressor doesn't engage, if the baerings bad it will lock up eventually. best solution, re-route, whenever possible, until a replacement can be afforded. been there.

Message: hey justin i gotta no ac belt for my 98 dak if u in bama feel free to drop by i dont need it. i had the same prob dude when i was 16 im 17 now tho..i gotta used compresser for like 120 dollas and it had a 90 day warranty..and i installed it myself. not too hard to do..maybe..1 hr or so. my truck is currently parked,.,due to 198k miles of hell it spun a bearing or something,.,.wont even turn over now..and this is a 98 model with a 3.9 if anyone has a good cond running 3.9 4 sale hit me up mikegotta400ex@aol.com
