You should do a search on ball joints. The noise sounds like your ball joints are gone. Mine as well as others sounded the same. My passenger side where shot and took the top a-arm bushings with it. Mine is a 98 2 wheel 3.7. Also the wheel bearings are an sealed unit so you have to replace the whole hub. Some guys do replace the bearing unit but haven't heard about the seals.
Hope it's not your problem...

definately your ball joints had same symtoms and replaceing them fixed it. they will look ok and even if you use the "shake the tire" ethode will seem OK, BUT when the ones on your dak go bad they end up having too much verticle free play and the onlt way to check for it is to jack it up, then try to pry them apart and compress them with a big set of channel locks, Any movement at all is bad and once the total movement gets to be 1/16 they are shot.

My truck was ding that to, I originally thought it was the ball joints, but when I got under the truck and started to shake things, it ended up being the bolts that hold the swaybar to the frame were loose.

I just found the sound on My truck. It was a end link on the sway bar the nut that hold the link to the lower control arm was missing. It looks like it has elongated the hole that it is to bolt down on & damaged the treads on the end-link :-(
I just hope I can bolt a new one it w/o replacing the lower control arm. and I hope that I can find a new end-link. The dealer told me the E/L is $65!
