Message: thats weird... maybe it wasnt quite in gear all the way.. so its never done that any other time though?? it might be the low/reverse band going south, or the fluid needing changed...

Message: Not to be stupid, but if you were making a U-turn, is there a chance that your tire was spinning and not the tranny?

Message: Also, if you were going around a turn pretty hard, the transmission fluid may have sloshed to one side and the torque converter pulled up some air.

Message: Well for sure the tires werent spinning, and I changed the tranny filter and oil about 10k miles or so ago.It hasnt really ever did that I have noticed sometime's when the passing gear kicks in it can be alittle weird.I have a heavy duty noisy a@@ fan clutch on there and when I usually start the truck and take off it sounds like a freakn motor home..but then after a minute it quiets down it was loud when I took off but I'm dont think that it would ahve anything to do with the tranny

Message: My guess is still that you pulled some air through the tranny. You need to check the fluid with the engine running. I assume that you know that.
You might need a band adjustment.

Message: yeah I'll check it again at lunch after it warms up...Hopefully it was just a glitch ever sice my truck hit 60k i've had to replace a bunch of stuff. How hard is it to adj the bands?,I've never done that.

Message: The air is a definite possibility, I assume your truck was cold when you did this... but since you said passing gear (second) acts funky, I would suggest you get the bands adjusted. Make sure you check the fluid warmed up and in neutral (shift through all the gears first then put it in neutral) you may have overfilled the tranny. That would cause the fluid to foam, and the tranny to slip...

Message: Adjusting the bands isn't hard. You should probably get a Haynes manual (or equivalent service manual) just for the diagrams. The band that you probably need to tighten has an adjustment on the outside of the tranny, just above the neutral safety switch. You loosen the lock nut, turn the screw to 10 in/lbs, back it off a certain amount and then tighten the lock nut. If you get it too tight, the tranny will bind and you'll have to loosen it a little.
I can't remmeber exactly how far to back it off now. The Haynes manual will tell you.
The other band adjustment is inside hte tranny. You have to drop the pan to get to this one. I believe that it is only for reverse/first gear, so you probably don't need to mess with it. THe one on the outside of the tranny housing adjusts the 1-2 shift.

Message: Yeah it was cold..Now that you mention it there was like a few bubbles on the indicator, maybe it has a bit too much, but dont you think since it's been awhile since I actually changed the fluid it would have done this before?..

Message: In theory, it should have done it before (if it was stressed) how many times have you done that same maneuver?? Maybe a good bubble got in the pump or tq converter, and it was struggling to prime itself again. It might just be a coincidence, and your tranny is going south (hopefully not) also your tv cable may need some adjustment... my 98 rc 3.9L i had, acted funny when i had the tv cable adjusted too tight (hitting the rev limiter in the 1-2 shift sometimes in the 2-3 shift)
look up "tv cable adjustment" in the search on here, you should find instructions there.
hope I helped

Message: What kind of fluid did you use when you changed
Chrysler ATF+4 or Amsoil universal syn only
These trans are very sensitive to fluid no
el cheepo fluids or dextron as chrsler says do not
use these fluids.
May have been just a piece of dirt in the valve
body, presure sensor or solonoid going bad if its
a 42 RE elec gov controll
If it is working alright now don't worrie to much
it happens just a fluke
