I just swapped to a 50mm TB, and now there is a slight hesitation upon initial accelleration. Is this just the computer relearning or did I do something wrong? I reset the computer after the mod, and I have driven 150 miles.

50mm is too big... did you use a v8 tb, and remove the torque step? the biggest you should use on a 3.9L is 48mm (stock v8 tb unmodded) It might get a little better with more mileage, but i doubt it.

I installed a SICK 50MM that I bought from E-bay. I didn't remove the torque step.

I also have the following mods: 180 T-stat, Accel brass cap and rotor, Autolight 3923's gapped to .40, 7mm Bosch wires, and homebrew w/K&N. Flowmaster super 40 on its way.

is the TB the only thing you did to cause the hesitation, or did you do a few mods at once??

pretty much everything i have heard says tat 50mm is too big for the 3.9L (unless you have a HOT 3.9L with headwork, supercharger, headers, high compression, etc etc..) larry should be able to help you more then I can, i'm just going off what i have heard (and the experience i had with my 98 3.9L) i no longer have it though :-)

50mm is big for a stock top v6. But I think without porting the intake manifold that 50mm will act like a 47mm anyway. I would check your TPS voltage and maybe do the IAT relocation to get some more advance. Try that and see... if you get no joy then maybe the TB is just too big.

yeah i looked at one on ebay, its WAY to much tb for the 3.9L... it looks good for the 5.2/5.9 though.. they removed the tq step and polished the heck out of it. maybe you can get a tb spacer thats around 47-48mm to act as a restrictor (reducer) plate...

just my .02

Thanks. I'll check TPS voltage. The TB came with a 48mm spacer, and it is installed.

the 50mm tb is bigger than the bores on the V6 intake manifold... the hesitation is probably caused by that. Open the ports on the intake manifold up to match the TB and it should go away.

I had the same thing happen when i had a 68mm viper throttle body on my brother's 4.0 jeep wrangler...
