Subject: My New Duals sound Ricey!!! IP: Logged
Message: I just installed my new duals today on my 1993 3.9 5 speed.... i have a vortex muffler with single in, dual out. the inlet is 2.5" and the outlet is 2.25" it sounds really really really ricey at high rpms in 2nd gear, mid rpms in 3rd gear, and high rpms in 4th gear. My brother was driving it and I heard him drive by and I thought it was a rice burner, like a newer cougar with a 3 " tip. What can I do to fix this?
Will tips help?
welding all the pipes compared to just muffler clamps (no clamp on inlet of muffler right now)
please help

Message: Not trying to be a smartass, but really...having a V8 would help. It also could just be that particular type of muffler. Not all sound good on a V6. Some sound a lot better than others. Tips might help A LITTLE or get turndowns under the bed...they'll prolly rattle the hell out of the cab, but they'll echo off the ground and sound pretty kickass at idle. Driving at higher RPMs is gonna sound pretty ricey, regardless though.

Message: if all else fails, go with the flowmaster exhuast kit. lol
and uhhh, not to be a smartass gb2000, but i have a 6, and my brother's got the 5.2L V8, and my truck has a better sounding exhuast than his. Although... his exhuast is lookin kinda rough...
Just a thought...

Message: Yeah, but what I mean is a V6 will never sound like a V8...there's a thread about this somewhere on the page where everyone was debating about it. Don't get me wrong, you can still make a V6 sound damn good, but it's just not the same. Although you CAN make em sound like V8's at idle and prolly lower RPM's. I got a Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" single in, 3.5" single out muffler with a turndown under the bed and it definitely sounds like a V8 at idle, but jesus...when that sucker hits 2500 - 3000 rpm's it ain't got that nice deep tone no more. It's got the usual V6 tone...just louder and a bit throatier. Still sounds great for a V6 though...

Message: oh yeah, i know you cant make it sound like a V8, but personally, i wouldnt want to. I prefer the kinda sleeper appearance(sound), so that when i actually race them, they say "Damn, i thought that was a V6, but i guess not".
