your computer uses the coolant temp to help measure in the amount of fuel, the spread of fuel and the timing. For the first 10 or 15 minutes after starting, your computer does not use the coolant sensor since the motor is warming up. If it never gets a reading, it will activate your check engine light, toss a few codes at you and possibly start working in a "default" setting and could effect performance.

does the faze gauges use an electrical or mechanical sending unit for the temp sensor?

well... they sell them to look pretty...

and their marketing skills seem to work pretty good.

now other brands like autometer sell them for vehicles that need em... like my truck. Not a single factory gauge on my truck works... well.. the voltometer does but phooey the voltometer :D

Why not get a useful gauge like a transmission temperature
gauge? I have one of those mounted on the pillar. Having it
makes it easy to do complete trans flushes as well because of
the t fitting you need to install by the cooler. Or get an ammeter
which would show you what the alt is putting out.

1989 Dakota 3.9. In dash gauges not working, someone installed a set under the dash. Sensor under the ac compressor is still connected. The new temperature gauge sensor is installed to the right of the thermostat housing and I found two cut wires (black and white) on the engine. I think they actually removed the cts, can someone check their cts and verify the wire colors for it.
