Message: My v6 98 cc dak has been smelling pretty bad. Thought it was the cat but the dealer says the pcm needs to be flash and the trottle body cleaned? I had the Pcm flash and trottle cleaning done last summer. Can anybody tell me what would be causing the TB to be keep getting dirty? I have everything stock on my truck.

Message: They just get dirty over time. THe carbon is a by-product of the fuel spray from the injectors and the oil vapors from the pcv system. I clean mine at least once a year.
However, I have never heard of this causing a smell. I would guess maybe that your truck is running a little rich? Are you getting a rotten egg smell?

Message: Yes, I am getting the rotten egg smell. The dealer said my cat passed the emission test. Could my PCM be causing the truck to run rich?

Message: Rotten egg is usually the Cat, isn't it? Something to do with the chemical reactions taking place in there. I don't know if there is any -other- way to make it smell like that.

Message: Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the rotten egg smell come from messing up the cat from running too rich? I was told that on one of my older vehicles, it turned out that a bad O2 sensor was causing a rich condition and ruining the cat.

Message: I just came back from the Dealer after getting my trottle body cleaned. It cost $300.00 CDN. I then realized I had it done before last September 2001. That's only 5 months ago. Is it normal for your trottle body to get carboned up that fast? I have been getting sulfur smells for a while previous to this?

Go to the Speedtweaks site and look in the "tips and tricks and hints" or something like that. They tell you how to clean your own TB. Its real easy, fun, self gratifying and cheap.
