Subject: 98 V6 FIPK install DONE ! IP: Logged
Message: Well I went out a got one.. and just finished bolting it on. Did not have to bend any parts. The only thing I did, cause the Kit is for a V8, is move the mount point for the "horse shoe bracket" to the back of the heat sheild and flip the bar for the brace so the flat side bolts to the heat sheild. This put the "horse shoe" on the back side of the Air Tube but still provide great support with the hose clamp. I had some split tubing from replacing my Stock plug wires, so I used to pieces to line the hole in the Heat shield, looks real good. Took a little test drive and can feel the pull when I am on it. Also it seem to just keep going with my foot off the gas.
I will give it a good shake down on the way to work in the AM.

Message: cold air will help both throttle response and gas
mileage and around a 4 to 5 hp gain over hot air
One other thing you can try is relocating the IAT
incoming air temp sensor into the new intake tube
most K&N setups have a spot for doing that if not
just drill a 1/2 hole and screw it in about a
foot from the TB.
What this does reading colder air will advance the
timing and add fuel just like a jet chip does by
lowering the reading.
Be sure you put a 1/4 npt pipe plug in the hole
you remove the sensor from located in the #2
intake runner on the intake manifold right pass
side near the throttle cable bracket the sensor
does not need to be grounded just a veriable
resistor that changes resistance with temp
Some trucks doing this has a very noticeable
increase in performance but not all trucks react
the same its a mod to try and see how your truck
reacts to it
If you need to lengthen the wires be sure you
solder them and it makes no diff which wire goes
on which side of the sensor

Message: Yep... I am thinkg about the IAT mod. I think I will look for a gromett from a V8 pcv or breather with a 1/4 hole, route a hole in the intake tube, pop the gromett and slid the IAT in that for a snug fit. I might just buy an extra so I can switch back to stock if I want to.
