Subject: Running with key OFF IP: Logged
Message: When it gets hot outside and the 91 3.9l 4x4 is hot (not overheated) the engine will run up to 4 seconds after the key is switched to off. Anybody else seen this?
4 speed atx with A/C, and all the usual mods, 140,000 on old school 10-30w penzoil, and not one single fluid leak.

Exactly what it is,
injector small leak
feed back trigering injectors after shut down
Bad o2 running rich at idle and burning the
excess gas after shut down
What causes that is gas getting in and being hot
it ignites with no ignition known as desiling
Bruce at fivomotorsports.com now has new
replacement injectors for the throttle body injection

Message: Thanks for the reply. I have been suspecting injectors for other symptoms (decreased mpg, poor performance). There is no sputter just smooth idle-then dead. Like a small time warp like the truck said "oh, you turned the key to off", and then the motor stops. I have seen posts sayin' that it is a very simple swap to improved injectors requiring like only a torx driver and some grease, but what is the cost?

It is easy to replace the injector. Throttle body is easier than multi-port.

Message: My truck does that as well.
Is it only bad injectors that cause that, or could it be other things as well?
I am replacing my plug wires in an attempt to fix a rough running engine, but O2 was going to be next on my list, if that doesn't solve the problem. Wouldn't a cylinder not firing properly also richen the mixture of exhaust gasses and cause the engine to lean out on the other cylinders?
