Subject: 93 V6 sputtering and backfiring

About two months ago, I began having problems with my 93 V6. I would crank it over to start, and my ignition would sputter and backfire. I would turn it off, restart, and no problem. Repair shop didn't seem to know what was up.

About a month later, it started doing this while I was driving. Ultimately, replaced the distributor with a rebuild, but the problem continues.

Putting the gas down generally stops the problem, but it has begun to happen every two to three minutes.

I checked the fault codes, but all it throws up is a "55" end of codes....

Help - any ideas?

there was a problem with the distributor bushing. take out your distributor and there is a brass bushing pressed into the block. getting it out is main step and buy a new bushing and install it. that will fix your problem. i should know i did it on both my 93's
