I raced my friends 2001 Ext Cab eXtreme the other day. I have a 93 RC 5 speed with just a drop in K&N. The race was close, it was a dead tie. However, I think I shoulda won considering I spun my tires all the way through 1st gear up to 30mph, and then squeeled again coming into 2nd. So, I dont think the 4.3 is that great considering Im pretty much stock. However, I lost by a car length to my friends 96 Blazer with the 4.3. His is totally stock and automatic. I guess it depends on how well I'm driving that day.

that 96 Blazer with the 4.3 in it is probably the vortech engine. A v8 with two cylinders chopped off...

All of the late model 4.3's are vortek motors.
The blazer and the xtreme probably had different gear ratios.

First off the blazersa come with the SS motors...and no i dont mean the camaro ss motor i mean the 195 h.p. ss motor they used to put in s10's as a peppy package then they went into the blazers....after that i think the blazers have 3.73 gears as oppossed to 3.55 I have driven both and there is a difference in accleration but its not by a whole lot. I race my friends 97 s10 ext cab and a 00' xtreme RC and I can beat them on a 30 punch all the way to a 100+ but off the line is a different story they will pull a full truck length and then i have to play catch up at about 45 m.p.h. I have minimal mods and so do they just depends on what you do and how you drive heres my webpage for my mods

Blazers come with 190 hp motors.. and that's only the 4x4 blazers. My brother has one and my brother-in-law has one as well. The 4.3 in the new silverado's have 195 hp (dad has one) but they have a lot bigger exhaust than the blazer and a factory installed throttle body spacer which is probably where the five horsepower came from. The S-10 Xtreme has 180-185 hp. '97 S10s have 175 hp... my mom use to have one.

no the 92-95 4.3 is the ss motor and it had 195-200hp and 260-265tq 96+ have the 190hp and 250tq and yes most blazer come with a better rear end than the s10

i lost to a friends GMC Sonoma 4x4. he has the 4.3 vortec. not sure what he has in mods except a flowmaster 40 exhaust, but we lined up and counted down to start, i kept up till i hit 3rd and he ended up about two car lengths ahead before we shut down at 70. both are automatics. we got back and another friend that rode with him said he had nitrous, but i can't say for sure. i've got the 3.9 4x2 auto reg cab with just intake for now ;) when i'm done modding he won't win.

Intense if the 97's came with 175 how come he can beat a rc xtreme 2001 and he has an ext. cab they both have cai and exhaust. 97's and up according to jeremy all have the same numbers...and i heard its more like 180-185h.p./225-230 TQ not all blazers are 4x4's and they do come with the ss motor or the intake upgrade. Another friend has a 97 4.3 full size and the dealer says he is at 200 h.p. because of no exhaust upgrade but intake and cam upgrade....all this info was given to me by people like the dealer....of course even them they have no clue what there saying...but o well

chevy 4.3 v6- s10 p/u & blazer 90-03
hp= 160 - 190hp depending on configuration. 4x2, 4x4, HO
96 up full size p/u 4.3 vortec 200hp(had one)
IMO don't like the 4.3

geez... because one has 180 hp and one has 175 doesnt mean the one with 180 is gonna beat the other...
its only five freakin' horsepower people!!!
there's a lot more in the pot than horsepower.
and maybe the fullsize is 200hp.. i thought i read on my dad's window sticker 195hp.
..but 97 s-10's with a 4.3 had 175.. it was changed to 180 in 1998.

Intense...no ones getting pissed its just that its hard to believe for a heavier truck to lose to a light truck maybe the 97 has more torque who knows there just checvys and not worth getting all frusturated about : )
