I have a 1988 Dakota 3.9 auto. I blew up the tranny, a while back. I somone gave me what they said was a auto OD tranny out of a 1987 Dakota 4X4. I put the tranny in and so far it works good. But it doesn't seem to have OD. Since then some one told me that the 87 OD trannys are different to the latter ones(88 +) Does anyone know if there is infact a difference between the two transmissions ?? Any help that you guys can offer would be helpful.

I doubt very seriously that he gave you a "4wd" trans anyway as the 4wd tranny would have a transfer case on the rear of it and if it didnt you would have to do some fancy machine work to get a standard tail housing on it.
OD trannys are electronically controlled, do you have a switch?
