Message: Ya well I was having some problems with my pollution control burning off the rubber hoses. So I just blocked the whole system off. ( Cause my mechanic told my that the only reason I need it for is inspection time and he does it for me so I have no worries.
However I am a bit worried that blockiing off the system could have negative effects on the engine. Anybody have any experience in this department??

What part of the system does this? The air injection for the catcon? If so, either the check valve is stuck (a simple repair), or the catcon is clogged and needs replacing anyway.
We all need to breathe, so we all need these systems working all the time. If your mechanic cheats for you, he is subject to a $20,000 fine and being shut down; you are subject to a $2,500 fine. Is that cheaper than the repair that's needed?

Message: You have a really good point Bob. Not about the fine but actually keeping our air clean. Usually I`m pretty consciencious about this kinda thing, but, how many people really care. If you say that you do well, your a liar, cause almost everything we do in life is bad for our planet.
I would like to fix it. Is the check vavle the same as the charcoal canister. I`ve checked the owners manual and it doesn`t mention anything about the check vavle.

How to win friends and influence people (and spell poorly.
No, the check valve has nothing to do with the charcoal canister. I was wondering if you have an air injection pipe to the catalytic converter. It may not be on the V-engines. That's the one thing I know that will back up and cause things to melt. You tell me, what's damaged?

Message: Okay there teach. Thanks for correcting me there. And by the way PISS OFF!!! Sorry I dont proof read my sh!t like a god damn essay.
And ya I do think I have those injections pipes going right down to the cat. One on both sides. So you think a new cat well solve the problem Eh? How would I check without taking off the cat?

Message: Nice attitude. You must have lots of friends.
I didn't say replace the catcon. The check valve inline in the injection tube (usually accessible near the firewall) can stick open and allow exhaust gas to back up into the air cleaner and melt rubber hoses. A new check valve would be needed. If you disconnect the hose from the air cleaner side and feel exhaust coming back up (instead of suction), the valve is bad.

Message: This is a common problem on Chryslers from that era, and not hard to fix. Used to happen all the time on K-cars.
