Subject: Transmission Whine IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1998 V6 Dakota Sport. I have noticed a "whine" coming from the manual transmission. Thought that it might be clutch related and since the original had 65,000 on it I decided to change the clutch and pilot bearing. But...(why is there always a but)...the whine continues. It is more noticable in 1st - 3rd gear and seems to be less or non existent in 4th and 5th. When the clutch is pushed in the noise goes away. Once the clutch is left out.."there it is"!!! Can anyone please shed some light on this? Is this a sign of my transmission going or what? Thanks in advance!

Message: Does it do it in a certain rpm range? Mine will make a whining buzzing noise from 1900-2200 rpms. I have taken it to the dealer and they don't know what or where the noise is coming from. I would like to know where the nise is coming from aswell it's annoying as crappppp.

Message: You changed the clutch and "pilot bearing"? I hope you mena the throw out bearing. Anytime you do a clutch job, it should include, clutch disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing. That could be where your noise is coming from.
