Message: Ok i am confident that i have the black sheep of the dakota family. Nobody else that i know of that has one has ANY of the problems i have had. And i guess i'm due for yet the next. '98 Dakota with the 3.9. For some stupid reason my gas needle just doesn't really move anymore. I only get maybe....14 miles to the gallon average. No mods, it just sucks. Is there anyway for me to fix it, or do i really have to let chrysler fix it for 300 or more.

Message: Do NOT let dodge fix it if you want to do it yourself. I had the exact same problem with my '98. Bought a new sending unit for $40. You have to drop the tank and pull the fuel pump to fix it. Not really hard, but it helps to have a hand and a near empty gas tank.
