Message: My 2000 Dakota 3.9L developed a problem with the fuel pump module which caused low fuel pressure and long crank times for starting. I am getting the fuel pump module replaced under extended warranty (have 58,000 miles). The dealer also wants to charge me $198 for fuel injector cleaning. Any thoughts as to whether the cleaning is really necessary or are they just trying to scam me?

Message: Holy cow. For $180 you could get a new set of Bosch fuel injectors which would be better than your stock ones.

Message: WOW...200 bills for FI cleaning!!......maybe I'm not charging enough. I would check around at some of yor local independent garges for FI cleaning. Should be able to get it done for half that price. On my Dakota and some of my customers trucks been seeing injectors clogging around the 60k mark. Installing the Bosch injectors will solve two problems (your clogged injectors and it's a better injector) but the Bosch injectors will be suseptible to clogging at 60k just like the originals.

Message: Thanks for the tips guys but I was too late. When I went to cancel the FI cleaning the service manager conveniently told me that the job was already in progress. You live and you learn.
