just some pix and info about the 42re transmission compared to others.

When i did my big block install, i used a 727TF out of a '69 road runner with a 383 between the rails. First thing i noticed is that my factory slip yoke would not fit on the 727's output shaft because the output shaft on the 42re was bigger and used thicker square splines while the 727 used smaller triangular splines (less mass).

that right there is a good strong side for the 42re... bigger output shaft and bigger slip yoke.

The other day i had someone try to tell me that the input shaft on the V6 tranny was also smaller than the input shaft on a BB 727TF. Yesterday i went and bought a 727 from a '72 440 car and brought it home. Today I removed the other/broken 727 from my BB took pix of the '69 727's input shaft

now here is the '72 727's input shaft from the tranny i got yesterday

they look pretty good and all but it's kinda scary when i put the input shaft of my old 42re up next to them.

the input shaft of the 42re is a lot bigger than that of both 727's and almost as big as the 727's pump shaft.

Now it looks to me like the 42re should be able to take some friggin power... if and only if dodge would put some quality bands, clutches and sensors in these things!

6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs
