Subject: Intake gaskets? IP: Logged
Message: I removed the intake manifold from my 1993 Dakota 3.9L 4x4 because of an intake leak. I have the new plenum cover and gasket from Hughes Engines. As for the other intake gaskets, what would you all recommend? Should I get the intake gaskets from the dealer or are the Fel Pro gaskets from the parts store good gaskets? I'm sure the Fel Pro gaskets are cheaper. Any opinions on these gaskets?
Thanks!

Message: Great, thanks! What is the easiest way to make sure all the old gasket material is off the manifold and heads? Around the coolant passages, the old gaskets had corroded and left a black carbon kind of stuff on the manifold. Is there a recommended way to scrape the debris off without damaging the sealing surface? The Haynes manual said to use acetone to remove it but it seems like there is kind of a buildup of it. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
