Subject: Spark Plugs IP: Logged
Message: Hello -
I am looking for opinions on what spark plugs this board prefers to use when changing the plugs that were factory installed. MoPar/Dealer? Autolite? Champion? Bosch? etc. Platinum? Splitfire? Dual tip? Quad tip? Thanks in advance.

Message: You will get as many answers as there are brands of plugs. Factory is Champion, which I have found run best in my vehicles. Autolite is widely preferred here (it makes my cars stumble at idle). I've found AC is also good (and AC and Champion were both founded by Albert Champion, probably little difference in construction).

Message: CC 3.9 auto, 4x2, 3.55 LSD, 30x9.50x15LT tires @50psi, hard lid, V8 TB, 180 stat, Bosch plats @.040, modified airbox w/paper filter, synthetic in motor and differential.
daddio, I was already getting a little over 21(@70mph) when I got the truck bone stock. The thing that made the most difference, mpg-wise, was removing the intake snorkel from the airbox and cutting the hole out to 4.5" diameter (flap next to radiator removed but no cold air tube). Results were as good as a cone filter - which I tried for awhile but became concerned about poor filtration.
Of course I'm sure driving style is also a factor, and I do calculate mpg the old-fashioned way (no overhead comp).

Message: i wouldn't mind that kinda mileage. currently 18-19 combined driving(calculated - no comp). '00 QC 3.9, 5spd w/3.55 and 235/75/15 tires @ 40psi. ported 44mm TB, cut open air box, 180 stat, underdrive crank pulley, removed clutch fan, Bosch plat's gapped @ .045", Borg Warner cap & Rotor. need new wires. got Crower 1.7 RR's just haven't installed them yet. would like to squeeze another 2 or 3 mpg out of her. maybe i need to install the RR's.

Message: daddio - does your TB still have the 44mm plates? If so, you could stand to go bigger. I bolted on the 50mm(48mm step) V8 body unmodified, and it is definitely NOT too big with stock internals. After about 500 miles of "PCM learning", low end was the same or slightly better, top end dramatically better (as expected). MPG-wise, the truck doesn't lose near as much when carrying/pulling more weight (didn't expect that).
Anyway, "18-19 combined driving" sounds pretty good, especially for a QC.

Message: yeah, it's still got the 44mm plates, just took out the air horns and that torque step. i think i need to make a trip to my local salvage yard. maybe try to trade them a 44mm TB for a 50. i still have my original 44 TB that's only got 25,000 miles on it. with that and the 1.7RR's i think i may get to 20mpg with those 2. runs pretty dam strong for a heavy az QC already.
