Message: All the heads do bolt up, but you need the intake, the fuel system, and computer plus lots more work.
I might wanna do this same thing so I`ve been searching around.
I think you have to drill and tap the holes to make the heads fit on the block. Now they do say the blocks are the same.
If you get this done it should add almost 40 hp.
Let me know how it goes.

Message: Search the message board...I remember seeing a lot of information on this in another post a few months back. If I remember right you will need the intake manifold to match the heads and as far as oiling, I believe you had to go to hollow pushrods. I don't remember it all but I know it's posted on this board somewhere.

Message: the mag heads bolt to the non-mag,
the intakes bolt different-mag straight down bolt
non-mag bolts go at a angle, drill and tap the heads for the non-mag intake[use the intake gasket as a template] or hughes engines .com can do them for $60
oiling is different non-mag oil comes through a hole in the heads and use a tube for the rockers
mags oil through the push rods and uses a stud for the rockers
use the jeep lifters or check your lifters to see if they will oil through the push rod, some do
use the mag push rods or buy a set
last you,ll need the mag valve covers
going this route saves you changing the pcm and wiring injectors etc.,

Message: If you use the Magnum heads, you're gonna have to step up the injection system. The heads are good for at least 35hp. Do you think the stock pre-Magnum system is gonna adequately handle the upper rpm fuel requirements? Not. With added airflow, goes greater fuel requirements, efficiency improvements not withstanding.

Message: I have been studying the wiring diagrams for the 1991 and down and the 1992 and up dakotas (when they switched from TBI to MPI) and there dosent seem to be to much difference, except for some extra injectors and a few extra sensors. Anyway I'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade to this PCM if I use the magnum heads and intake and throttle body and wiring harness. I feel if I make sure that I get all the parts that it will be easy.

Message: I am wondering if the newer models of 4x4 dakotas have the same style of bushings in the a-arms and in other places. I want to put new polyurethane bushings in my '90 4x4 dakota. Any info is very helpful.

Message: Going with a Magnum PCM, if only for engine control, is certainly do-able. It's the same approach people have used to put an MPI unit in a non-computerized Mopar. You can piggyback it, or splice it into your system. The amount of control you give it beyond the engine management is up to you

Message: gen1dak,
the pre mag fuel system will handle fuel requirements just fine, its the same system on the 5.2s,
if more fuel is needed go with the pre mag 5.2 injectors
matt,
wiring the pcm and the injectors is not a problem, the crank sensor, flywheel, hole in the bellhousing is,these thing are needed to fire the injectors in time

Message: Ooops, got sidetracked and was thinking of an engine swap, not just heads on the same size engine. Yeah, the Magnum V6 and pre-Magnum 5.2 were right in the same HP zone, so it should handle it.
