Subject: Is flowmaster the best? IP: Logged
Message: I recently talked to my friend who got a cat-back system on his ram. He told me that the person he went to to get the muffler istalled said that flowmaster was really only a name and there are better mufflers. Is this true, because I really only hear about flowmaster and dynomax on this site. Also, which 40 model should I get, the original, the delta flow, or the super? I don't want to have to worry about the police when I drive, but I still want a deep, loud note. Thanks.

Message: Flowmaster is rated #1 I believe...but as far as sound goes, it's personal preference. Some people don't like the Flowmaster sound as well as others. There are other brands out there though...Dynomax, Gibson, Magnaflow, etc. Also the Super 40 series is sposed to have the deepest tone I think without a ton of interior resonance while the original 40 has a lot of interior resonance and exterior resonance (not as deep). The delta flow has very little interior resonance and not as much exterior sound as the other two. I think I got that ordered right...somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Message: I put a Dynamax SuperTurbo on my '03 3.9l. Loved the sound but the resonance in the cab drove me nuts.
I ran the tailpipe straight out under the bumper and put a Hedman exhaust tip with a built in resonator on the tailpipe and that got rid of the cab noise.

Message: Flowmaster is fine if you like loud. Yes other muffler brands flow better depending on which models you are comparing. It's one of those things where people become zombies and go with what everyone else is doing and put a Flowmaster on. Maybe they don't realize there are other brands or maybe the shop they were in at the time only had Flowmasters and they were impatient. Try a Magnaflow or Dynomax. Dynomax Super Turbo is not as obnoxious as a Flowmaster but louder than stock. It's all personal preference.

haha, just kidding...
I dunno, I bet the setup like mine can get you a ticket. Flowmaster 40 series (original) with a turndown right after the muffler. I have set a few car alarms off driving across town...lol.
Oh yeah, when the packing burns in after 1,000 miles or so, does the muffler usually sound a little louder or quieter than when it was brand new?

Message: the muffler will get louder after it burns in, as for if flowmaster are good or not if u trying to build a truck that gets every bit of hp it can then flowmater will hold u back a tiny bit, but since we all have v6's and the 2/3 hp diffrence between a flowmaster and another brand would not do anything
