Message: Ok here's some Chevy info.
As far as 98+ (rounded front ends) go there are 3 engines available. The "W" code 190HP, "X" code 185hp, and the pointless 2.2L. The auto's could come w/ 3.08, 3.42, and rarely 3.73's (i think) The 5-spd's are stuck w/ 3.08's. ZQ8's (no ground effects)and Xtreme's can be a bit faster than a regular S-10's because of the wider tires and better suspension like a 3rd shock on some models to prevent wheel-hop. Any of these three engines can be in both reg. and ext. cab S-10's. 4x4's always get the 190HP engine. So there's your info on S-10's, now go out and race.

Message: It is all about the rear gear boys... you won't realize the diff in a .350 and a .373 until you run them on the track, it is like night and day.
Gotta match that HP curve right.
I sold my '98 GMC and bought a '98 s10 (still have)
both single cab both reg bed (185 hp)
auto's with CPI 4.3
I routinely pull away from dodges around the 35-45 mph zone (against those dodge v6's)
It is like a silverado with a 4.3 - retarded
I haven't fooled much with the dodge's, but these lil 4.3's you can mod the hell out of em, and they respond well because they are built for more air and fuel. The computer restricts all that flow and performance suffers. Bigger throttle body and re-program the computer and !Waa-zaam!
Nice lil street sleeper that Mustangs and Camaros respect
A quick dodge was the '91 or was it a '92? DaK I don't remember, but that thing was sweet (my grandpa's) v8 in a lil single cab. Best dam truck dodge ever made

Message: im gonna clear this up for all you dakota dudes.
the 1998 s-10's drive train goes like this. all 2wd drive v6's had 180 hp. all 4x4's had 190hp. the 2wd ex cab v6' had 3.08 for 5 spd and 3.42 for auto. the reg cab had 3.42 for 5 spd and 3.73 for automatic. the 2.2 reg cab 4 cyl had 120hp and 3.73 w/5 spd and 4.10 w/automatic. the 2.2 ex cab 4 cyl had same as reg.
