Subject: Better MPG on a '88 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I have an '88 Dakota 4x4 long box. I currently get about 12mpg city/16mpg hwy. I know the timing is slightly off and will be fixing that shortly. Otherwise it is mainly all stock. I would love to keep the truck but cannot afford the gas being as it's 2 bucks a gallon and me being in school. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Message: Give it a good tune up. New plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, ignition rotor, maybe distributor cap. Coolant temp sensor would also be a good replacement.

Message: set the timing at 12-13 degrees instead of 10,
tune-up like 92dak said,
if you have the stock muffler put a free flow muffler on,
have your o2 checked or replace,
hotter coil[high energy]
these things could get you [one or more] 2-4 mpg more
