Subject: 2000 Dakota Clutch. IP: Logged
Message: Went out to start it this morning and it won't go into gear with the engine running. There's no noise from the clutch linkage when I depress the pedal, either. Any thoughts, or is it shop time?

Message: how's the pedal feel?
how many miles?
could be the master or slave cylinder or pressure plate.

Message: The pedal feels fine - maybe a bit easier to press than usual. It's got 65000 Km (almost 41000 miles) on it.

Message: Does anyone know if there's a place to check fluid levels for the clutch system?

Message: Well, the cylinder is full of fluid, and it looks like it's in good shape. I'm assuming that the cylinder being full means that there hasn't been a pressure loss in the system that could cause this problem?

Message: well, if there are no external leaks the internal seals could be gone and not allow it to build any pressure when you push the pedal. check to see if the clutch fork moves when you press the clutch pedal. if it moves it's probably the pressure plate.

Message: You'll have to bear with me - I've never investigated the specifics of the clutch before. Where would I look to find the clutch fork?

Message: it is on the drivers side of the bell housing. that's the part that holds the tranny to the engine.

Message: my 2000 does this too. pump the clutch pedal up/down about 20 times.. it will clear up the problem for a little while. the master, slave, and hydraulic line is sold as an assembly. I bought it, but haven't felt like taking on the hassle of rpelacing it yet. it looks like a real PITA to do. My truck starting doing this 6 months ago.. i wondered when I would see someone else with the same problem
