I own a 3.9 dakota 4x4 with a super 40 series flowmaster... its sounds pretty good considering, yet ive heard many rumors about exhaust tips effecting the tone.. my friends sure did on his ranger 3 liter (whether better or worse you would have to decide). Well i heard the exhaust tip that Y's to a dual tip from the single exite stock pipe makes the sound deeper toned and better.. well i was just wondering what tips to what ( downpipes vs dual exiting etc.. if anything at all) , cuz i would like to purchase one, thanks!

exhaust tips do make tone changes in exhaust sounds, I put a 3"diam Gibson on my std. exhaust only because I bent the sh** out of it and I got it cheap. It did change the tone. Really!! my opinion only, don't waste you money, get a good set of headers instead!!!!!

yeah they actually make tips that change the sound but these tips are ment for imports
and since i say import u already can guess they are ugly
They are just a muffler for a tip with an inside thats exactly like a glass pack or the inside looks like a cheese shredder

Yeah, cj, I was wondering the same thing. I asked for a tip for my birthday, but I don't want one if it'll make my truck sound sucky. I anyone else knows anything, I would like to hear what they have to say, too.

Yes they do make it a difference (for better or worse, it depends on the tone your going for and what Johny Law alows). I used to race and i know that speedway motors also makes hot rod stuff. They have exhaust tips (that are universial...providing you have a 2 to 2 1/2 inch outer diameter tail pipe) that are 12" long or you can go with 18" long ones. They're called echo cans, and if you hear'm on a nice engine you'll know why. That type of tip has been around for a long time, my grandfather ran those on his flat-head race car back in the 50's.
