Subject: 91 timing IP: Logged
Message: I've been tracing an engine stumble when slowing down. I found the EGR valve was causing the problem. While I was at it, I checked the timing. Seemed okay. What is the standard timing for a TBI 91? The hood on my truck was replaced so the emissions sticker is gone. The dealer no longer has them either. The timing seems to be set at 2 degrees when the temp. sender is unplugged.

Message: I believe the stock spec should be 10 Degrees
I'll have to verify that.

Message: 10 degrees at idle with the temperature sensor unplugged? Now if the sensor is plugged in, like it would run everyday the timing is close to 10 degrees.

Message: If the timing is 10 degrees with the sensor unplugged then mine is WAY OFF!!! Looks like I'll be working on this weekend. Another round after having to change the A/C clutch last week.

Message: Update,
WOW is all I can say. Resetting the timing has sure helped. I have noticed the increase in MPG in just the first 1/2 tank!!! I can say that it will probably get over 20 MPG at 70 MPH!! City MPG has definately gone up. I should be taking an 8 hour drive next week. I'll know for sure after that trip. If anyone has an 91 or older model TBI I suggest a timing check after a good tune up.
