Message: There were a few years 97 I beleave was one of
them that had probs with the gov pressure sensor
and solonoid not working right and would throw
codes
The presure is controled by the computer via a
presure sensor and a solonoid that opens and
closes a valve
You need to drop the pan and cant remember if you
need to also drop the valve body to replace these
2 things and than the prob is solved.
It could also just be the sensor sending the wrong
singnal back to the comp
Do these repairs before you let a trans shop talk
you into a complete overhall and emptying your
wallet for the next 3 months
If you have a presure guage handy you can check
the presure
Center port,
Break on in drive idling should be between 50 to 70 psi
As soon as you just touch the throttle it should
jump to 100 plus psi
You can also try a fluid and filter change first
and see if that helps when was the trans seviced
last, don't get a power flush just fluid and filter
It will take about 6 Qts to do this the filter
with gasket is around $10 you can do this yourself
Use only Chrysler ATF +4 or Amsoil universal trans
fluid,
NO DEXTRON OR CHEAP FLUIDS IN THESE TRANSMISSIONS

Message: gotta drop the valve body to do it. When you do, besure to keep count what bolt goes where. There is about a dozen of them. When you take the filter off, let the tranny drain and go get yourself a drink... it will drain for awhile. Next remove the valve body and then go get lunch. It will drain for as long as you let it. And the more you let it drain, the less messy it is. It is hard to work on a tranny in a driveway without turning your clothes red.

Message: how much does a new sensor or solenoid usually cost? I just had the tranny rebuilt last week and put it back in this past tuesday. When I would start off from being stopped, it would take a while to get up to speed and then it would shift and be fine. the check engine light kept coming on and when it did, if I went to excelerate, as if to pass a car, it wouldn't go into a lower gear. I had the guy that did my tranny hook my truck up to his diagnostics computer and it pulled up code P1757. I called the dodge dealership and the guys wanted me to bring my truck down there and have them scan it for 75 bucks. I'm takin the truck back to the guy and he's gonna check the sensor and solenoid out for me.

Message: Glad we could help
I don't remember the years think it started in 97
and for a few years they had probs with this on
the 42RE's
After that they used better parts and having the
prob became very rare

Message: On a '93 Dakota Magnum V6, 5 speed. After driving about 200 miles with the headlights on, the tach needle started to fluctuate. After stopping for gas and turning on the headlights, all of the gauges and the tach started to fluctuate, the headlight beeper is beeping and the digital display on the standard radio is dimmed. As long as the headlight switch is off, there is no problem. After sitting overnight and starting the next morning, only the digital display on the radio dimms. The other gauges and tach do not fluctuate. Has this something to do with driving for long periods with the headlights on or is there some other situation? What do I need to check out?
